Irish property prices attract overseas investors

House prices in Ireland have fallen dramatically in the years following the global financial downturn and this has resulted in more interest from foreign property buyers. In some areas of the country house prices have fallen by between 40 and 50 per cent and apartment values are less than half those prior to the global recession. An eye for a bargain has tempted many overseas real estate investors and a large number of UK property investors have shown an interest in buying a property in Ireland. Several prominent estate agents have noticed keen interest from British buyers – attracted by the low prices and the excellent cheap travel links from Britain. According to several online reports Ireland remains in the top ten locations most searched for by investors – two of the most popular regions are Cork and Wexford in southern Ireland where a traditional two bedroom cottage can be bought for less than E50,000. Australian property and French property also featured in the top ten locations.
